Ready, Set, Truck!

This page is all about Why

My name is T.K. Keith...

This page is about why I created Ready, Set, Truck! and the reason I’ve dedicated my time to helping drivers succeed in trucking.

I remember what it felt like to be brand new. Nervous, curious, and not sure what to expect. Everyone around me had advice, but nobody broke it down in a way that made sense.

That’s what I want to change.

I started where you are now

My trucking journey began in 2005.

I went through the same process every new driver goes through from studying for my permit, heading to CDL school, and trying to figure everything out as I went.

I trained with Schneider National in Charlotte, North Carolina. The program was supposed to be 4 weeks long, but because of scheduling mix-ups, I ended up spending 8 weeks there.

At the time, it was frustrating. While my classmates were out making money, I had to travel back and forth from Augusta, GA to Charlotte, NC for training until I was able to take the CDL skills test.

But instead of getting discouraged, I used those extra weeks helped me master one of the most important skills a driver can have... Backing!

Looking back, those additional four extra weeks allowed me the time to really understand the skills that would be helpful to me for the rest of my career.

Those early lessons stuck with me. They taught me patience, problem-solving, and how to keep moving even when things don’t go as planned.

I tried everything

Over the years, I’ve worn just about every hat you can wear in this industry.
I’ve been a company driver, a trainer, a lease-purchase operator, an owner-operator leased to other companies, and even the owner of my own trucking company with multiple trucks running under my own authority.

I’ve driven for major carriers like Swift, CRST, KLLM, and Celadon, and I’ve spent years training new drivers how to handle real-world situations safely and confidently.

Each role taught me something different about trucking, about people, and about what it really takes to make it in this industry long term.

I know the struggle

I’ve seen new drivers show up to CDL school with big dreams, only to lose confidence because of a bad trainer or a rough first week. I’ve watched good drivers quit because no one ever explained how to manage their time, plan their trips, or take care of themselves on the road.

That’s why I take what I teach seriously. I don’t want to see another driver struggle with something that could’ve been prevented with the right information and support.

I always tell my students, “If you think you’re tired, start looking for a place to park. Don’t wait until you’re tired, it’s too late then.”

Because that’s what this career is really about... being smart, staying safe, and thinking ahead.

Ready, Set, Truck! is for Drivers Like You

Ready, Set, Truck! was created to help new drivers succeed in trucking.
It’s more than a website or a training brand. It’s a place where you can learn, prepare, and build confidence in this industry.

Through guides, tools, and resources like the Glossary of Trucking Terms for New Truckers, the Miles-to-Money Calculator, and our First Year Trucking Resources. Ready, Set, Truck! helps you learn the business side, the mindset side, and the everyday skills that you won't learn in most schools.

But more than that, it’s a growing community. A space where drivers can connect, learn from each other, and grow together.

If you’re just starting out, this is where you find your footing.
If you’re already in the game, this is where you take it to the next level.
You don’t have to figure it out alone.

Ready, Set, Truck! is here to help you every mile of the way.
